La impremta oberta (LIO) is a platform dedicated to the production and dissemination of publications linked to contemporary thought and creation. In this presentation, part of the Sâlmon Festival, the aim is to explore some of the materials produced and to open up a space for exploring the various links that can be established between experimental publishing practices and the field of performance.
Varamo Press embraces the unexpected and values the arbitrary circumstances in which writing comes into being. Snatching, wording, printing, it gives a paper form to various kinds of literature that have a fleeting life elsewhere.
The editors of Varamo Press, Mette Edvardsen and Jeroen Peeters, present the catalogue of their publishing house – a catalogue of books published and unpublished, material and imaginary, in print and out loud. Through reading and conversation, they share insights in publishing as artistic practice, in making and imagining books and their multiple forms of life.
Varamo Press is an artist-run, independent publishing house founded in 2018 by Mette Edvardsen and Jeroen Peeters. It takes inspiration from César Aira's character Varamo, a clerk whose chance encounter with a trio of publishers in a bar inspires an unlikely collaboration that yields a masterpiece of experimental literature. 'The time had come to reap the benefits of his inveterate, impractical habit of holding on to every piece of paper that came into his possession. He need only copy his notes out, string them together somehow, and allow them to form a book.'
Mette Edvardsen is a choreographer and performer eager to explore the performing arts as a practice and situation, also in relation to other media such as books and writing.www.metteedvardsen.be
Jeroen Peeters is an essayist and dramaturg working across the media of writing, not-writing, performance and publication. He writes about art and matters such as ecologies of attention, material literacy, readership in the expanded field and cultural rewilding.www.jeroenpeeters.work

La impremta oberta (LIO) is a project born out of the collaboration between two cooperatives – Coop ny ny and Cultural Rizoma. LIO is a space for production and experimentation, equipped with the necessary resources for artists linked to Espai nyamnyam, as well as members of Club de tinta, to develop projects at the intersection of publishing and artistic creation. LIO also offers services to develop publishing projects: support for conceptualisation, production and dissemination, among others. LIO is the umbrella organisation for Ressò, its own publishing house specialising in expanded essays and contemporary creation.
