'The Iberian body' workshop

'The Iberian body' is a workshop of creation on the claim of the traditional body and movement through its practice. It develops through the generation of own cultural movements and the praxis of traditional pieces.

From the second half of the twentieth century, the cultural movements generated in the Iberian peninsula always seek the key to their success in imitating Anglo-Saxon patterns. Interiorizing and experiencing the power of the ancestral Iberian culture through dance, percussion, singing and performance is the aim of this laboratory.

To whom it is addressed

The workshop is addressed to ladies, gentlemen, moderns, djs, conservatory musicians, crazy muscles gym folk, baccalaureate students, professional dancers, folklorists, fashion designers, storytellers, comedians.

The intention is to create a cast as varied as possible of about 15 people (over 16 years old). We ask you to send a short biography and a letter of motivation, which will be evaluated based on the artistic knowledge, the personal and emotional development, and the ability to narrate and transmit.

Contents

We will work on traditional singing, dancing and percussions with the aim of creating a small open and experimental performative piece. The level of learning will be adapted to the skills and knowledge of the attendees. Prior knowledge of traditional music or dance is not essential, but it will be appreciated, as well as the theatrical, performative, or musical experience in any field (traditional, popular, classic, contemporary). The purpose of the laboratory is to create a germ performance of a cultural movement of independent, popular, Iberian and contemporary.

For this, we will know los toques, singing and dancing of 2-3 traditional pieces, from which we will work on experimentation. The first two days will consist of learning and interiorizing the traditional pieces, and then investigating and developing the pieces through body, music, cabaret, humor, and ending up creating a piece that we will present at the Festival Fenòmens.
