Amalia Fernández

AMALIA FERNÁNDEZ (Granada, 1970). Trained as a dancer (Seville Conservatory and later various laboratories with different artists such as Ana Buitrago, Olga Mesa, Elena Córdoba, Mónica Valenciano, etc.). Member of the company “El Bailadero, Mónica Valenciano” for 10 years. From 2005 onwards she began to create and direct her own work. Since then she has created and performed 12 stage pieces, among which stand out Kratimosha (2009), En Construcción (2011), El resistente y delicado hilo musical (2017), Expografía (2019), Neti Neti (2021), and Solala (2024). She has also created another series of pieces in collaboration with artists such as Juan Domínguez, Nilo Gallego, Cuqui Jerez, Sonia Gómez, etc. In her teaching practice she has collaborated with public institutions (Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, the MPECV, Institut del Teatre de Barcelona, Faculty of Fine Arts of the Complutense University, etc.) as well as with various private structures and foundations, leading creation laboratories. She is also a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher. She has collaborated as a dramaturg (outside eye) for various artists (Laila Tafur, Joaquín Collado, La Chachi, Lucía Marote, Alberto Cortés, etc.). She is currently working on a writing project, based on the subjective question “what is dance for me?”, which will be published by La Caldera.
